FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) [print-me]

Q: Do I need a permit to burn on my property?

A: To burn anything outside of a fire pit between June 1 and October 31, you must get a free permit from Nathan Robinson Duchesne County Emergency Management Ofc, the State Fire Warden for the Duchesne District.
Before a permit is granted, the Warden will assess the conditions at the site.
CAUTION: If you burn without a permit and the fire gets away from you, you may be liable for the costs associated with putting the fire out AND all damage it causes.
Between November 1 and May 31, you may burn without a permit, but you should notify Mike Leffler, Duchesne County Emergency Manager.
You also need to notify the Duchesne County Sheriff Dispatch that you’re burning so that, if your neighbors report a fire, Dispatch can avoid getting firefighters rolling on a false alarm.
NOTE: Burning garbage or in a burn barrel is never legal!

Q: How do I report a fire?
A:

  1. Call 911 or you can call The Fire Center 1-800-243-0456 or 435-789-7021! Even if you know the First Responder personally, DO NOT call their home number or cell phone. They can’t respond without direction from Dispatch.
  2. They will need your name and your call back number. Responders may need more information or they may need to call you back to inform you of a controlled burn.
  3. They will ask for your location information, e.g., Mile Marker #, landmark, street address.
  4. Describe what’s happening. Give your best information indicating what has happened or what is burning and who is injured. Is it a single tree or more? Is a structure involved or is a structure in the vicinity. If so, how close? What color is the smoke? Information must be accurate and concise to be helpful.

Q: Who, What and Where is the Fruitland Fire Department?

A: The Fruitland area is served by an all-volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters are our neighbors and friends. The firefighters roll on all structural fires in the Fruitland area and can also be called by the Fire Warden to assist in Wildland fires. The Fruitland Fire Department is also the First Responder for accidents and medical emergencies. The EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) are the ambulance drivers and are dispatched by the Sheriff’s Department. When they arrive on-scene, they triage the injured and work to stabilize the injured patient(s) and then transport them to the nearest appropriate hospital. We owe the deepest gratitude to Fire Department volunteers for the important job they do. They are Nathan Robinson, Fire Chief and Duchesne County Fire Warden; Scott Smith, 1st Assistant; Ken Ludwig, 2nd Assistant; Kathy Robinson; Diana Ludwig; Brenda Smith; . . .(?) The Fruitland Fire Department is located just north of Highway 40 on the road to the Red Creek Reservoir–the building with “BE FIRE WISE painted on the doors!”
