The Fruitland Firewise Fire Fair was a wonderful event.
The weather could not have been better. Mid 60’s to low 70’s, clear blue sky and lots of Fruitland WIND!!
We gave away hundreds of door prizes from a ton of wonderful sponsors including some very expensive grand prizes. To everyone’s appetite delight, Papa Murphy’s Pizza from Heber was there serving pizza by the hot slice as well as Take and Bake pizzas and on the other side of the courtyard our newest food vendor Outlaw’s BBQ & Grill from Duchesne was there calming the hunger of many a weary sole!!
The attendance this year was 402 soles which is an 82% increase over last year 2016, (which by the was was a 38% increase over 2015, and 2015 was a 36% increase over 2014).
Jim Davis our Vice Council Chairman and MC for the event pulled off the impossible by standing at his post for 6 hours giving away door prizes about every 5 to 7 minutes. I would imagine that over 50% of the attendees went home with a door prize.
We reminded everyone that they can now put their “In-Kind” time in on the FruitlandFireFair.org website and we handed out frige magnets to everyone as a constant reminder.
The grand prizes were 1) A hand painted 3’x4′ mural honoring those who have served. 2) A custom hand crafted table lamp, 3) A custom hand crafted magazine rack, 4) And Council member Jerry Nelson asked and his Dewalt rep gave us a 20v Lithium Ion cordless Impact drill package with all of the Dewalt accessories. You must be present to win so the crowd was hanging on to the end and many cheers went up as the last of the door prizes for 2017 went out the “Door”.
At the end, we quickly cleaned up the Fire Station and got all of the Fire Trucks and Ambulance backed in, just in time for the first call out of the day and away they all went and the Fire Station was empty again. Our best wishes go to those to whom the EMS and Fire crews responded to.
If you attended the Fair, it was obvious that you had a wonderful time and if you didn’t attend, put it on your calendar for next year. We’ll have more wonderful door prizes, equipment and practical demonstrations, food, kids games and probably even more.
